Vianden (called Veianen in Luxembourgish) is a special area in the north of Luxembourg. It is known as a canton, which is like a small region or district. The main town, which is also its capital, is called Vianden.

A Look Back in Time

Vianden became a canton on February 24, 1843. This means it has been a recognized area for a very long time. On January 1, 2006, two smaller areas called communes (like small towns or districts), Bastendorf and Fouhren, joined together. They formed a new, larger commune called Tandel. This change helped make the local government simpler.
