The Visayas (also called the Visayan Islands) is one of the three main island groups in the Philippines. The other two are Mindanao to the south and Luzon to the north. People who live in these islands are called Visayans. They speak languages like Cebuano and Wáray-Wáray.

Geography of the Visayas Islands
The Visayas includes many islands in the central part of the Philippines. It is located around the Visayan Sea. To the east is the Philippine Sea, and to the west is the Sulu Sea.
The main islands in the Visayas are:
- Bohol, covering about 3,269 square kilometers.
- Cebu, covering about 4,468 square kilometers.
- Leyte, covering about 7,368 square kilometers.
- Negros, covering about 13,328 square kilometers.
- Panay, covering about 12,011 square kilometers.
- Samar, covering about 12,849 square kilometers.
Regions and Provinces
The Visayas is split into three administrative regions. These are Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas. Each region has a Regional Director as its leader.
Overall, the Visayas has 16 provinces. Each province is led by a governor.
Western Visayas (Region VI)
Western Visayas includes the island of Panay. It also covers the western part of Negros. In 2010, about 7.1 million people lived here. The main city for this region is Iloilo City.

Central Visayas (Region VII)
Central Visayas includes the islands of Cebu and Bohol. It also covers the eastern part of Negros. In 2010, about 6.8 million people lived in this region. The main city for this region is Cebu City.

Eastern Visayas includes the islands of Leyte and Samar. In 2010, about 4.1 million people lived here. The main city for this region is Tacloban.
