Exploring Waldoboro's Location

The Waldoboro CDP is found in the south-central part of the town of Waldoboro. It's located in the eastern part of Lincoln County. This area includes the main village of Waldoboro, which sits on both sides of the Medomak River. It also covers a part of the nearby village called West Waldoboro.

Waldoboro's Borders

The CDP stretches southwest along the Medomak River to a place called Meetinghouse Cove. From there, its western edge follows Dutch Neck Road and Bremen Road (which is Maine State Route 32). It goes north to the German Cemetery, then northwest to where Main Street meets U.S. Route 1.

The western boundary continues east along US 1 to ME 32. It then angles west to include The Hill Road. After that, it returns to ME 32 and follows it north to Cross Street at Winslows Mills. This is the northernmost point of the CDP.

The eastern edge of the CDP follows Depot Street southeast from Cross Street. Then, it goes along a powerline east to Maine State Route 220 at Hahn Road. From there, the CDP border runs south along Back Brook and Slaigo Brook. It reaches Route 220 just north of Sampson Cove on the Medomak River. Finally, the border runs northwest along Route 220 to a small road that leads west down to the Medomak River.

Several important roads pass through Waldoboro.

  • U.S. Route 1 goes through the northern part of the community. It leads east about 11 miles to Thomaston. It also goes southwest about 10 miles to Damariscotta.

The Medomak River flows right through the middle of the village. Here, the river reaches tidewater, meaning it's affected by the ocean's tides. It then continues south as an arm of Muscongus Bay. This bay is part of the Gulf of Maine, which is part of the large Atlantic Ocean.

Scientists have studied the rocks under the ground in this area. In 1991, William C. Sidle mapped the bedrock geology. A very small amount of natural mercury was found in the ground.
