Welland is a small area, or 'suburb', located inside the city of Adelaide, Australia. It's about 5 kilometers (3 miles) northwest of Adelaide's city center. The name 'Welland' comes from a place called Welland in Worcestershire, England, and was given to the suburb in 1907. Welland is part of the City of Charles Sturt local government area.

Welland's Past: A Look at History

The Welland Post Office first opened its doors on October 3, 1921. For most of the 1900s, Welland and nearby areas were famous for making bricks. This industry was located close to the Torrens River. Today, you can still see a large chimney from an old kiln at the Brickworks Marketplace. This marketplace is in the northeast part of Torrensville.

In 1923, the Torrens River flooded the brick fields in Welland very badly. This flood forced some of the brick-making businesses to move further west. They relocated to areas like Beverley and Allenby Gardens.
