Wells is a small city located in the northeastern part of Nevada, a state in the western United States. In 2020, about 1,237 people lived there. Wells is found where two important roads meet: Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 93. It is about 50 miles (80 km) east of Elko. Wells is part of the larger Elko area.

History of Wells
The area where Wells is now started as a place called Humboldt Wells. This was a key stop along the old trail that pioneers used to travel to California. Later, it became a town because of the first Transcontinental Railroad. Trains used to stop here for passengers.
The Humboldt River begins nearby, from springs and a wet area that is still called Humboldt Wells today. In 1877, a fire broke out in Humboldt Wells. A quick message was sent saying, "Wells is burning!" After the town was rebuilt, people just started calling it 'Wells'.

The 2008 Wells Earthquake
On February 21, 2008, a strong earthquake happened near Wells. It was a magnitude 6.0 earthquake and occurred at 6:16 AM. Because Wells was very close to where the earthquake started, it had a lot of damage. The earthquake's center was about 5.6 miles (9 km) below the ground. It was only about 12 miles (19 km) away from the city of Wells.
Geography and Location
Wells is located where Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 93 cross. The city covers an area of about 6.9 square miles (17.88 square kilometers), and all of it is land. Wells is quite high up, at an elevation of about 5,630 feet (1,716 meters) above sea level.

Wells has a climate with warm summers and cold winters. It also gets some snow, especially in December and February.

Education in Wells
The public schools in Wells are managed by the Elko County School District. There is one elementary school and Wells High School in the city. Wells also has a public library, which is part of the Elko-Lander-Eureka County Library System.

- Mae Caine - She was a suffragist and worked for women's rights. She was also a leader in the community and a government official.
