The city is located in the southeastern part of Broward County. It includes neighborhoods like Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, and Utopia. West Park got its name because a large part of the city is west of the town of Pembroke Park. In 2020, about 15,130 people lived in West Park.

History of West Park

Before becoming a city, West Park was made up of several neighborhoods. In 2004, the Florida Legislature allowed people in these areas to vote on becoming a city. On November 2, 2004, residents voted to incorporate. The vote was 3,400 for and 956 against.

After the vote, an interim committee was chosen. They held meetings to decide what services the new city would provide. It was decided that the new city would be called West Park. This name was kept permanently.

On March 8, 2005, Eric H. Jones, Jr., was elected as the first Mayor. Four Commissioners were also elected: Felicia M. Brunson, Thomas W. Dorsett, Sharon Fyffe, and Rita "Peaches" Mack. They officially started their roles on March 10, 2005.

In 2011, West Park was recognized by a group called KaBOOM!. The city was named a "2011 Playful City USA community." This award was given because West Park worked to create more play opportunities for children.
