Where White Cap Mountain's Water Flows
White Cap Mountain is part of a large area called a watershed. This means all the rain and snow that falls on the mountain eventually flows into certain rivers and lakes.
The Journey to the Ocean
The water from White Cap Mountain flows into the upper part of the Androscoggin River. This river then travels to Merrymeeting Bay, which is where the Kennebec River meets the ocean. From there, the water finally reaches the Gulf of Maine, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Waterways Around the Mountain
- The north side of White Cap Mountain sends its water into a stream that joins the Kennebago River.
- This water then flows into Cupsuptic Lake.
- From Cupsuptic Lake, the water goes through several other lakes and into the Rapid River.
- Finally, it reaches Umbagog Lake, which is where the Androscoggin River officially begins.
- The southeast part of White Cap Mountain drains into Bear Brook, which also flows into the Kennebago River.
- The southwest side of the mountain sends its water into Porter Brook, then into the Cupsuptic River, and finally into Cupsuptic Lake.
