Wurtulla is right in the middle of the Kawana Waters urban area.
Waterways and Boundaries
This suburb is surrounded by water! To the east, you'll find the amazing Coral Sea. Currimundi Creek (also called Currimundi Lake) is to the south. Pangali Canal and Lake Kawana are to the west. And to the north, there's Lake Kawana Boulevarde and Wurley Drive.
Main Roads and Nature
A main road called Nicklin Way goes right through Wurtulla. It runs from Bokarina in the north down to Currimundi in the south.
In the south-east of Wurtulla, there's a special protected area. It's called Currimundi Lake (Kathleen McArthur) Conservation Park. This park has natural bushland, mostly a type of plant called wallum heath. This kind of plant used to be very common along the coast in South-East Queensland.
Wurtulla's Past
Wurtulla got its name on September 1, 1967. A company suggested the name back in 1960. The name "Wurtulla" comes from an Aboriginal word that means "southward." It officially became a suburb on July 8, 1989.
