The year 1389 was a time of big changes in Europe. A powerful queen named Margaret I became the ruler of three countries in the north. Far away, a major battle took place in Kosovo, which changed who was in charge of the Ottoman Empire.

A Queen Takes Charge
- February 24 – Queen Margaret I of Denmark won a big battle. She defeated Albert, who was a king. This victory made Margaret the ruler of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. She brought these three countries together under her leadership.
The Battle of Kosovo
- June 28 – A very important battle happened in Kosovo. It was fought between the Serbs and the Ottoman army. Both leaders were killed in this battle.
- The Serbian Prince Lazar died fighting for his people.
- Murad I, the leader of the Ottoman Empire, was also killed.
- After Murad I died, his son became the new leader.
- The Ottoman emperor changed from Murad I (who ruled from 1359 to 1389) to Beyazid I. Beyazid I ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1389 until 1402.
