The Story of Abominable
A young Yeti escapes from a building in Shanghai. This building belongs to a rich man named Mr. Burnish. He wants to show the world that yetis are real. Meanwhile, a teenager named Yi lives with her mom and grandma (Nai Nai). Yi is very busy and doesn't spend much time with her family or friends. Her friends are Peng, who loves basketball, and Jin, his tech-smart cousin. Yi also plays the violin. She misses her dad, who also played the violin.
One night, Yi finds the Yeti on her roof. She names him "Everest." Yi hides him from Mr. Burnish's helicopters. She earns Everest's trust by feeding him Baozi and helping his injuries. Yi learns that Everest wants to go home to his family on Mount Everest. Everest learns that Yi wants to travel across China.
Mr. Burnish's security team gets close to Everest's hiding spot. Everest runs away with Yi. They barely escape a helicopter near the Oriental Pearl Tower. Yi and Everest then hide on a ship carrying red cola cans. Peng and a not-so-happy Jin follow them.
Yi, Everest, and the boys arrive at a port in southern China. They travel on a truck. Their crate falls off the truck, and they end up in a forest. There, Everest shows his amazing powers. He makes blueberry plants grow huge! Meanwhile, Mr. Burnish and Dr. Zara are still hunting Everest. They follow the friends' trail. They catch up in the Sichuan region. But Everest uses his power again. He makes a giant plant grow. Yi, Everest, and Peng escape on the plant's shoot. Jin is left behind and caught by Burnish's Goon Leader.
Dr. Zara acts like she loves animals. But Jin finds out she plans to sell the yeti. He also learns that Mr. Burnish, who seems tough, actually cares for animals. This includes Dr. Zara's pet jerboa. Yi, Everest, and Peng reach the Gobi Desert. They make friends with some tortoises. The tortoises are happy to get their giant plant shoot. Later, they go to a town by the Yellow River. Burnish's team corners them there. Peng helps them escape by causing a yak stampede. With Jin's help, they cross the Yellow River. They reach a field of yellow flowers. Everest makes these flowers grow to giant sizes.
The friends and Everest continue their journey. They finally reach the Himalayas. While crossing a bridge, Burnish's team traps them. But Mr. Burnish has a change of heart. He sees Everest protecting the children. This reminds him of when he first saw a yeti protecting its babies. Dr. Zara still wants to sell Everest. She gives Mr. Burnish a tranquilizer. Then she tranquilizes Everest too. Yi tries to protect Everest, but Dr. Zara throws her over the bridge. Burnish's team takes Everest, Peng, and Jin.
Yi holds onto a rope. She uses her violin, which Everest magically fixed, to create ice. This helps Everest get his strength back. He breaks free from his cage. Dr. Zara tries to kill Everest because she's angry. But this causes an avalanche. Dr. Zara and the Goon Leader are caught in it. To keep Everest and other yetis safe, Mr. Burnish agrees to help Yi, Peng, and Jin. He promises to keep Everest's existence a secret. Yi, Peng, Jin, and Everest finish their journey to Mount Everest. Everest reunites with his family!
After their big adventure, Yi returns home to Shanghai. She spends more time with her mother, grandmother, Peng, and Jin.
