The Arabian bustard (Ardeotis arabs) is a large bird that lives in parts of North Africa and the Middle East. You can find it in the Sahel region, which includes countries like Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, and Sudan. It also lives in South Sudan, Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.
These birds are known for being quite big. Like all bustards, the male Arabian bustard is much larger than the female. Males can weigh from about 5.7 to 10.9 kilograms (12.6 to 24 pounds). Females are a bit lighter, weighing between 4.5 and 7.7 kilograms (9.9 to 17 pounds). The heaviest Arabian bustard ever recorded was a male that weighed 16.8 kilograms (37 pounds)! When it comes to height, females stand around 70 centimeters (28 inches) tall, while males can reach up to 92 centimeters (36 inches) tall.
