The Aube is a river in France. It is a right tributary of the Seine River. This means it flows into the Seine from the right side. The Aube department, which is a part of France, is even named after this river!
Geography
The Aube river is about 248.3 km (154.3 mi) long. Its drainage basin covers an area of 4,595 km2 (1,774 sq mi). A drainage basin is the land area where all the water flows into one river.
The average amount of water flowing in the Aube is 33.70 m3/s (1,190 cu ft/s). This measurement is taken at Arcis-sur-Aube in the Aube department. This is called the river's discharge.
Where the Aube Flows
The Aube river starts in the Langres Plateau. Its source is near the town of Praslay. This is in the Haute-Marne department. The river begins at an altitude of about 390 m (1,280 ft).
The Aube river flows through two main regions in France. It also passes through four different departments. Many towns and villages are located along its path. Some of these include:
- In Haute-Marne (part of the Grand Est region): Auberive and Laferté-sur-Aube.
- In Côte-d'Or (part of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region): Montigny-sur-Aube.
- In Aube (part of the Grand Est region): Bar-sur-Aube, Brienne-le-Château, Ramerupt, and Arcis-sur-Aube.
- In Marne (part of the Grand Est region): Anglure.
The Aube river eventually joins the Seine River. This happens in the town of Marcilly-sur-Seine. This town is located in the Marne department.
