Avon is a town in Eagle County, Colorado, United States. It is a "Home Rule Town," which means it has special powers to govern itself. In 2020, about 6,072 people lived there.

Avon is known as the main entrance to the Beaver Creek Resort, a popular ski area. This resort is just about 2 miles (3 km) south of the town. Avon was also once the main office for Vail Resorts, a big ski company. Today, it is home to Liberty Skis, a company that makes skis.

History of Avon

Avon started as a small railway station in 1889. Its name was first spelled "Avin," but it was later changed to "Avon." The town officially became a town (or "incorporated") in August 1978.

Geography and Nature in Avon

Avon is located right along Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 6. The Eagle River also flows through the town.

The town covers about 21.8 square kilometers (8.4 square miles). A small part of this area, about 0.19 square kilometers (0.07 square miles), is water. Avon sits high up in the mountains, at an elevation of about 7,430 feet (2,265 meters) above sea level.

Nottingham Lake and Park

One of the most popular spots in Avon is Nottingham Lake. In the summer, you can enjoy the beach there or rent paddleboards and pedal boats. Right next to the lake is the Harry A. Nottingham Park and Pavilion. This park hosts fun events like an annual art festival and summer concerts.
