Benin is a country in West Africa. It has sent its best athletes to almost every Summer Olympic Games since 1980. Before that, in 1972, the country competed under its old name, Dahomey.
Even though Benin has participated in twelve different Olympics, its athletes have not yet won an Olympic medal. Also, no athletes from Benin have ever competed in the Winter Olympic Games.

Benin's Olympic Journey
Early Participation
Benin first joined the Olympic Games in 1972. This was in Munich, Germany. At that time, the country was known as Dahomey.
In 1975, the country changed its name to Benin. It then competed under this new name for the first time in Moscow in 1980. Since then, Benin has proudly sent its athletes to every Summer Olympics.
