Exciting Expeditions
Bogdan Bulychev is known for his incredible journeys. Here are some of his most famous expeditions:
59 Parallel: Across Russia
In the summer of 2015, Bogdan led a project called "59 Parallel." This trip celebrated 170 years since the Russian Geographical Society was founded. The name comes from the 59th parallel north, which connects the starting point (Saint Petersburg) and the ending point (Magadan) of the journey.
Two cars traveled all the way across Russia, visiting many cities like Yaroslavl, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, and Yakutsk. After the expedition, a documentary movie called “59 Parallel: Discovering Unknown Russia” was made.
Pole of Cold: Into the Arctic
In early 2016, Bogdan and his team went on the "Pole of Cold" expedition. Three cars started in Irkutsk and drove on frozen ice roads. Their goal was to reach Tiksi, a northern settlement on the shore of the Laptev Sea.
The team also visited Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk, two places known as Russia’s "poles of cold" because they are incredibly chilly. This trip helped create detailed car routes for traveling in northern Yakutia. It also promoted car tourism and a healthy lifestyle. Famous explorers and TV crews joined this adventure.
Eurasian Ring: A World Record Attempt
From August to October 2016, Bogdan's team took on the "Eurasian Ring" expedition. They used one car to cross the entire continent of Eurasia, visiting 14 different countries. The total distance was more than 40,000 kilometers, which is longer than the Earth's equator!
The team tried to break a Guinness World Record. They wanted to travel from Lisboa, Portugal, to Magadan, Russia, as fast as possible. These two cities are the farthest apart in Eurasia. They started on August 23 in Lisboa and finished on August 31 in Magadan. They set a new official record of 7 days, 22 hours, and 58 minutes.
Into the Heart of Asia: Mountain Adventures
In the fall of 2017, Bogdan led another expedition supported by the Russian Geographical Society. This car trip went through six countries: Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and back to Russia.
The team crossed two huge mountain ranges, Pamir and Tian Shan, using a regular car. The goal was to encourage free car travel and film videos for their YouTube channel "About travels." During the trip, they even helped with a search and rescue operation in Kyrgyzstan, finding a lost tourist.
Travels to Dikson: The Northernmost Point
In January 2018, Bogdan Bulychev and fellow explorers reached Dikson. This is the northernmost continental settlement in the world! This amazing achievement is recognized as a Russian, European, and Guinness record.
The hardest part of the journey was crossing the frozen Yenisei River and the Kara Sea. Because of tough weather, they had to return on an icebreaker ship, which picked them and their cars up from the ice.
Bicycle Expedition to the North Pole
In April 2018, Bogdan made history again. He became the first person in the world to reach the North Pole by bicycle! He used a special bike called a fatbike. On this trip, he also set another world record for the fastest bicycle journey around the world in the Northern Hemisphere.
Family Life
Bogdan is married to Vladlena Sergeevna Bulycheva. He proposed to her on the ice of the Laptev Sea! They have a daughter named Eseniya, who was born in 2017.
