Bullfrog Hills facts for kids
The Bullfrog Hills are a small group of mountains. You can find them in the Mojave Desert in southern Nye County, Nevada. These hills got their name because some people thought the color of the ore found there looked like a bullfrog!

Where Are the Bullfrog Hills?
The Bullfrog Hills are surrounded by other interesting places. To the east, you'll find the town of Beatty. There's also the Amargosa River and US Route 95. The Bare Mountains are also to the east.
Nearby Areas
To the southeast and south, you'll see the Amargosa Valley. Nevada State Route 374 runs through this area. Southwest of the hills is the Amargosa Range. This range is right along the border between Nevada and California.
West of the Bullfrog Hills, you can find Death Valley National Park. The Grapevine Mountains are also in this direction. To the north, past Sarcobatus Flat and US Route 95, is Pahute Mesa.
Sawtooth Mountain
The tallest point in the Bullfrog Hills is called Sawtooth Mountain. It stands at about 6,005 feet (1,830 meters) high.
Desert Environment
The southern parts of these hills are part of the Amargosa Desert. This desert is a section of the larger Mojave Desert. It also connects to the Great Basin Desert ecoregions.
Mining History of the Hills
The Bullfrog Hills have an exciting past, especially with mining! Many years ago, people came here looking for valuable minerals.
Rhyolite Mining District
The famous historic town of Rhyolite was located right in the Bullfrog Hills. This was a busy mining district. A railroad called the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad even crossed these hills. It went all the way to the Rhyolite Station. This railroad was part of the Bullfrog Goldfield Railroad.
Bullfrog Mining District
Another important mining area was the Bullfrog mining district. It was on the southern edge of the hills. The very first Bullfrog Mine is on the south side of Bullfrog Mountain. It's west of Rhyolite. Today, this mine is just inside the northeast corner of the Death Valley National Monument.
