Busti is a small town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. About 7,521 people lived there in 2020. The town is named after Paul Busti, who was an important official from the Holland Land Company. Even though his name is "Busti," people say the town's name with a "long i" sound at the end, like "BUST-eye." This is common for names in upstate New York.
Busti is located at the southern end of Chautauqua Lake. It is southwest of the city of Jamestown.

History of Busti
Settlers first arrived in the Busti area around 1811. The town of Busti was officially created in 1823. It was formed from parts of two other towns, Harmony and Ellicott. By the year 1900, about 2,192 people lived in Busti.
Two important historical buildings in Busti are the Busti Mill and the Dr. John Lord House. Both of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized for their historical importance.
Famous People from Busti
Several notable people were born or lived in Busti:
- Lorin Blodget (born 1823): He was a scientist and statistician. He wrote a famous book called Climatology of the United States.
- Lewis Clarke: He was an ex-slave who became a writer.
- Enoch A. Curtis: He was a well-known architect from Fredonia.
- Ralph Plumb: He served as a US congressman for Illinois.
- George Stoneman (born 1822): He graduated from West Point. He became a major general in the cavalry during the Civil War. Later, he even became the governor of California.
Geography and Nature
Busti covers a total area of about 123.9 square kilometers (47.84 square miles). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.04 square kilometers, is water.
The southern edge of the town is the border with Warren County in Pennsylvania.
Two main roads, New York State Route 474 and New York State Route 394, meet in the northwest part of Busti. This is near a place called Cottage Park.
Many small communities, or hamlets, are located along the shore of Chautauqua Lake in northern Busti. These places originally started as vacation spots.

- Busti – This is the main community, or hamlet, of Busti. It's near the center of town where County Roads 28 and 45 meet.
- Cottage Park – Another community near the shore of Chautauqua Lake in the northwest.
- Lakewood – This is a village on the shore of Chautauqua Lake. The town government offices are located here.
- Loomises – A community located right on Chautauqua Lake.
- Maple Point – Another community found on the shore of Chautauqua Lake.
- Shermans Bay – A community on the shore of Chautauqua Lake and along Route 394.
- Vukote – A community located on the shore of Chautauqua Lake.
- Stateline Speedway – This is a historic dirt race track, about 1/3 of a mile long. It's located on Kortwright Road.
