Cairo Jim is a super popular series of adventure books for kids. They are written by an author named Geoffrey McSkimming. People say these books are "epic" and really creative. They've even been compared to old adventure stories like the "Boy's Own Paper" and mystery novels by Agatha Christie.

There are currently 18 books in the series. There's also a special book called Cairo Jim's Bumper Book of Flabbergasting Fragments. It's full of poems, short stories, and puzzles for big fans! Cairo Jim

  • Cairo Jim is the main hero of the series. He's a famous archaeologist, which means he digs up old treasures and learns about history. He's also a poet, but not many people know that! Jim lives in a made-up place called the Valley of the Hairdressers in Cairo, Egypt. He always has his loyal animal friends with him: Doris the talking macaw and Brenda the wonder camel. Jim loves to wear special desert sunglasses and a pith helmet to protect himself from the sun.

Brenda the Wonder Camel

  • Brenda the Wonder Camel is a very smart camel. She comes from a special group of camels called the Wonder Herd of Thebes. Brenda knows a lot about the world. This is because she accidentally swallowed a whole set of encyclopedias when she was a baby camel! She has been Jim's friend for a long time. Brenda also really enjoys reading the "Melodious Tex" adventure novels.

Doris the Macaw

  • Doris is a talking macaw, a type of colorful parrot. She first met Jim in Peru. That story is told in the book Cairo Jim on the Trail to ChaCha Muchos. Since then, she has traveled with him everywhere. Doris can speak English very well. She is also an expert in ancient languages. Plus, she loves to quote lines from the plays of Shakespeare!

Captain Neptune Flannelbottom Bone

  • Captain Neptune Flannelbottom Bone is the main bad guy in the series. He used to be friends with Jim. They even went to archaeology school together! But now, Bone wants to steal old treasures and secrets for himself. He dreams of becoming super rich, powerful, ruling the world, and living forever. Bone is described as a bit overweight. He has a neat mustache and beard. He loves to wear fancy waistcoats, plus fours (a type of baggy trousers), spats (shoe covers), and fezzes (hats). He wears them in bright, clashing colors! He is also very proud of his perfectly neat fingernails.

Desdemona

  • Desdemona is a raven with red eyes and a lot of fleas. She can talk! Desdemona often helps Captain Bone with his sneaky and evil plans.

Jocelyn Osgood

  • Jocelyn Osgood works as a flight attendant for an airline called Valkyrian Airways. She is described as a "good friend" of Cairo Jim. Sometimes, she even helps him on his exciting adventures. Jocelyn also has her own pilot's license, so she can fly planes!
