Early Life and Education
Carol Thatcher was born in Hammersmith, London, on August 15, 1953. She and her twin brother, Mark, were born six weeks early.
In 1960, Carol attended Queenswood School, a boarding school for girls. Later, she went to St Paul's Girls' School. She then studied law at University College London. After finishing her studies, she moved to Australia in 1977 to start her career in journalism. While she was there, her mother became the Prime Minister. Carol once said that being the child of a Prime Minister requires "good shock absorbers and a sense of humour."
Journalism Career

Carol Thatcher began her journalism career in Australia. She worked for The Sydney Morning Herald from 1977 to 1979. She also became a TV reporter for Channel Seven in Sydney. Later, she reported for their morning news show, 11AM.
When she returned to Britain, she worked as a presenter for LBC, BBC Radio 4, and TV-am. She also wrote travel articles for The Daily Telegraph. Because her mother was a very famous politician, many newspapers did not want to publish articles with Carol's name on them.
Books and Documentaries
Carol's first book, Diary of an Election: with Margaret Thatcher on the campaign trail, was published in 1983. Her second book, Lloyd on Lloyd, was written with tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd. This book became a best-seller.
In 1996, she wrote another best-selling book about her father, called Below the Parapet. In 2003, Carol made a Channel 4 documentary about him titled Married to Maggie. In this film, she got the only public interview her father, Denis Thatcher, ever gave. He passed away shortly after the documentary was released. Carol has also written articles for magazines and newspapers and continued her television work.
