Cecilia Carmen Linda Brækhus, born on September 28, 1981, is a famous boxer from Norway. She was born in Colombia. Before becoming a professional boxer, she was also a kickboxer.

From 2014 to 2020, she was the "undisputed" female welterweight boxing champion. This means she held all four major world titles at the same time! She was the first woman ever to do this. Only 11 boxers in history, including men and women, have ever held all four main world titles at once. Cecilia is one of them! She also held another important title, the IBO, from 2016 to 2020. Right now, she holds an interim WBC super welterweight title.

In 2017, she was named the "Female Fighter of the Year" by boxing writers. Guinness World Records gave her three awards in 2018. She was recognized for being the longest-reigning female boxing champion. She also held all four main titles for the longest time. Plus, she had the most undefeated fights as a female world champion. She held the WBC and WBA titles for over 11 years! As of December 2023, experts rank her as one of the best female boxers in the world.

Early Life and Start in Sports

Cecilia Brækhus was born in Cartagena, Colombia. When she was two years old, Norwegian parents adopted her. She grew up in Sandviken, Norway, near Bergen.

She started kickboxing when she was fourteen. Soon after, she began competing in amateur boxing. She had a great record, winning 75 out of 80 amateur fights.

Amateur Boxing Achievements

Cecilia had a very successful amateur boxing career.

• She won a silver medal at the 2005 Women's World Amateur Boxing Championships.
• She earned a gold medal at the 2005 Women's European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2005.
• She also won a silver medal at the 2004 Women's European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2004.

Professional Boxing Journey

In November 2007, Cecilia Brækhus signed a contract to become a professional boxer. Her first professional fight was on January 20, 2007, against Ksenija Koprek.

On March 14, 2009, she became a WBC World Champion. She also won the WBA female welterweight title. She successfully defended these titles later that year.

In May 2010, she defended her WBA and WBC titles again. She also won the WBO title in that fight. The judges agreed she won all 10 rounds. In October 2010, she defended her titles and won another one, the World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) title. She won that fight by knockout in the 7th round.

In 2010, a German boxing magazine voted Cecilia the "Female Boxer of the Year." On September 14, 2014, she made history. After winning against Ivana Habazin, she became the first Norwegian and the first woman to hold all major world championship belts in her weight class. This is known as being the "undisputed" champion.

On May 5, 2018, HBO showed its first women's boxing match. It was Cecilia Brækhus defending her titles against Kali Reis. Cecilia won and kept her titles.

Cecilia lost her undisputed titles to Jessica McCaskill on August 15, 2020. They had a rematch in March 2021, where McCaskill won again.

On August 10, 2024, Cecilia won a new title. She claimed the interim WBC female super-welterweight title in Las Vegas.
