Chakwal is a city in the Punjab area of Pakistan. It is located in the Potohar region. The city's name in Punjabi and Urdu is Urdu: چکوال.
Chakwal is the 66th largest city in Pakistan based on its population. It is about 90 kilometers (56 miles) southwest of Islamabad, the capital city. It is also 270 kilometers (168 miles) from Lahore, the capital of Punjab province. You can reach Chakwal from both the Islamabad International Airport and the Lahore International Airport.

Chakwal has a unique landscape. You can find deep valleys, also known as canyons, in an area called Thirchak-Mahal. The city is also surrounded by several lakes. Some of these lakes are natural, while others were created by people.

Chakwal's District Status
Chakwal became its own district in 1985. Before that, it was part of other districts. Parts of Jhelum District, Attock District, and a police station from Pind Dadan Khan were combined to form the new Chakwal District.

Chakwal city is the main center for the entire Chakwal District. It is also the administrative center for its own tehsil, which is a smaller division within the district.
The Chakwal District is divided into three main tehsils:

- Choa Saidan Shah

The city of Chakwal is further divided into five smaller areas called Union Councils. The entire Chakwal District has 68 Union Councils.
