Clear Mountain is a hilly area. Its southern edge follows Cedar Creek. This creek is a smaller stream that flows into the South Pine River. Most of Clear Mountain is high land. Water from this land flows south into Branch Creek. Branch Creek also joins Cedar Creek. Other small streams flow north into Lake Samsonvale.

Two schools once served the children of Clear Mountain. The Branch Creek primary school opened in 1889. It taught students until 1913. Clear Mountain Provisional School started on October 12, 1903. It became Clear Mountain State School in 1909. This school closed its doors in 1947.

Clear Mountain used to be a suburb of the Pine Rivers Shire. This shire was about 20 kilometers north-west of central Brisbane. In 2008, the Pine Rivers Shire joined with other areas. It became part of the City of Moreton Bay.
