How Albany Creek Started

The suburb began at a spot where two important Aboriginal tracks met. One track was the main path heading north from Brisbane. This path is still known as "Old Northern Road." The second track connected Old Northern Road to Little Cabbage Tree Creek in Aspley. It then continued to Downfall Creek in Chermside. Today, Albany Creek Road and Gympie Road follow this old route.

Changing Names: From Chinaman's Creek to Albany Creek

Albany Creek was first called Chinaman's Creek. Its name was changed in 1885. This was done to honor the Duke of Albany.

Early Buildings and Schools

Building the South Pine Bridge

Cashs Crossing was an important point on the main road from Brisbane to Gympie. In 1891, people suggested building a bridge there. Construction started in 1892, and the South Pine Bridge was finished in November 1892. It even survived the big floods in February 1893.
