Early Lives
The Sprouse brothers were born in Arezzo, Italy. Their parents are Matthew Sprouse and Melanie Wright. Their parents were American teachers in Tuscany when the twins were born. Dylan is named after the poet Dylan Thomas. He is 15 minutes older than Cole. Cole is named after jazz singer Nat King Cole. The boys moved back to the United States when they were four months old. Acting Careers
The brothers started acting when they were eight months old. Their grandmother, Jonine Booth Wright, suggested it. She was a drama teacher and actress. Their first role was in a diaper commercial. They would switch places on screen every few seconds.
Many twins play the same role. This is because of child labor laws in California. These laws limit how long children can film each day. Using twins allows more filming time for one character. From eight months old, they played one character, Patrick Kelly. This was on the ABC show Grace Under Fire.
