Brooklyn: A Village in the Southeast
- Brooklyn is a village located in the southeastern part of the township. It's a central spot for many residents.
Cement City: Spanning Two Counties
- Cement City is mostly in Lenawee County. However, a part of it is also in the south-central area of Columbia Township.
Clarklake: A Community by the Lake
- Clarklake is an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a city or village. It's built around Clark Lake in the northwestern part of the township. It even has its own ZIP Code, 49234. This community started way back in 1833.
Lake Columbia: A Man-Made Lake Community
- Lake Columbia is another unincorporated community. It's found around the man-made Lake Columbia in the south-central part of the township.

The township covers a total area of about 39.60 square miles (102.56 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 36.64 square miles (94.90 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 2.96 square miles (7.67 square kilometers), is water.
Major Roads in the Township
- U.S. Route 127 runs along the western edge of the township. It goes north about 10 miles (16 km) to Jackson, which is the main city of the county. Southward, it leads about 19 miles (31 km) to Hudson.
- M-50 crosses the eastern side of the township and goes through the village of Brooklyn. It heads northwest about 14 miles (23 km) to Jackson and southeast about 19 miles (31 km) to Tecumseh.
- M-124 goes east-southeast from Brooklyn. It passes by Vineyard Lake and Wamplers Lake, leading about 8 miles (13 km) to US-12 in Lenawee County.
Rivers and Waterways
Columbia Township is where the River Raisin begins. This river flows through Vineyard Lake and eventually reaches Lake Erie. Goose Creek also flows through Lake Columbia, which is a man-made lake, and then joins the Raisin River. The Grand River also starts in the western part of the township. It flows north and west, eventually reaching Lake Michigan.
Michigan International Speedway
The northern part of the famous Michigan International Speedway is located within Columbia Township. This is a well-known place for car races.
