Currumbin Waters is surrounded by natural and man-made borders. To the south, it meets the border of New South Wales. The Pacific Motorway is on its east side. Guineas Creek Road is to the north, and Simpsons Road and Piggabeen Road are to the west.

The beautiful Currumbin Creek flows right through the suburb. It starts in the south-west, in Currumbin Valley. Then it heads north towards Palm Beach and Currumbin. Finally, it empties into the Coral Sea.

The name Currumbin Waters first came from a real estate development. The name Currumbin comes from the local Bundjalung language. It might mean "high" or "high trees," or it could be a different spelling of "kurrohmin," which means "kangaroo."

- St Augustine's Catholic School: This school started way back in 1926 in Coolangatta. It was first run by a group of nuns. In 1987, the school moved to its current spot in Currumbin Waters. Today, it's managed by regular staff, not nuns.
