Dresbach (pronounced DRESS-bahk) is a small community in Minnesota, United States. It is not a city with its own government. Instead, it is an unincorporated community. This means it is part of Dresbach Township in Winona County.
This quiet place sits right next to the mighty Mississippi River. It is located along Interstate 90, a major highway. Dresbach is found between the cities of Winona and La Crosse. U.S. Highways 61 and 14 also briefly join Interstate 90 here.
Dresbach is located on the west side of the Mississippi River. Nearby places include Dakota, Nodine, and La Crescent. In Wisconsin, nearby cities are La Crosse and Onalaska. You can also find Great River Bluffs State Park close by. Local spots include the Dresbach travel information center. There is also Lock and Dam No. 7 on the Mississippi River.
History of Dresbach
Both the community and the township are named after George B. Dresbach. He was the person who started the community. George B. Dresbach also served as a representative in the state legislature.
The local post office first opened in 1858. It was called Dresbach City back then. In 1864, its name changed to Sherwood. Then, in 1866, it changed back to Dresbach.
In the past, Dresbach was a busy place. It had a station for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad. There was also a sawmill which cut wood. Several brickyards made bricks. People also mined for lead here. There were also quarries for limestone and sandstone.

Getting Around: Transportation
Amtrak’s Empire Builder train passes through Dresbach. This train travels between Seattle or Portland and Chicago. It uses the BNSF tracks. However, the train does not stop in Dresbach. The closest train station is in La Crosse. This station is about 8 miles to the southeast.
