Ephratah is a small town in Fulton County, New York, United States. In 2010, about 1,682 people lived there. The town's name comes from Ephrath, an ancient biblical town in what is now Israel.

History of Ephratah

The area where Ephratah is located was first settled around 1720. A large piece of land, known as the Stone Arabia patent, was granted in 1723. This patent covered much of what is now the southern part of Ephratah.

The name "Ephratah" was suggested by an early resident named Anthony Beck. He believed the area would grow into a great city. The name means "fruitful" or "abundant," suggesting a place that would thrive.

The town of Ephratah was officially created in 1827. It was formed from a part of the town of Palatine. At that time, Palatine was in Montgomery County. Later, in 1838, when Fulton County was created, some of Ephratah's land was given back to Palatine.
