Ettingen, known as Ettige in Swiss German, is a small town in Switzerland. It's located in the Basel-Country area, specifically in the Arlesheim district. Ettingen is a municipality, which is like a local government area.

Ettingen's Early Days
Ettingen is quite old! The first time it was written about was in 1268. Back then, it was already called Ettingen.
Ettingen's Location and Land Use
Ettingen covers an area of about 6.35 square kilometers (2.45 sq mi). A big part of this land is used for farming, about 33.4%. Even more, nearly half of the area (49.9%), is covered by forests. The rest of the land, about 17.2%, has buildings or roads on it.

- Buildings and Roads: About 10.1% of the built-up area is for houses and other buildings. Roads and other ways to get around make up 5.5%.
- Forests: All the forested land is covered with thick forests.

Ettingen is in the southern part of the Leimen valley, within the Arlesheim district. It started as a haufendorf village. This means it was an unplanned village with buildings packed closely together around a central area. Today, Ettingen has become a commuter town. Many people who live here travel to work in the bigger city area of Basel.

Ettingen has a population of about 5,000 people. As of 2008, about 12.9% of the people living here were from other countries. Over ten years (1997–2007), the number of people living in Ettingen grew by 1.8%.

Education in Ettingen
Many people in Ettingen have a good education. About 43.9% of the population have finished non-mandatory upper secondary education. This is like high school.
Also, 15.7% of the people have completed even higher education. This means they went to a university or a specialized college (called a Fachhochschule). Of those with higher education, most were Swiss men (61.4%) or Swiss women (24.1%).
In 2000, 10 students came to Ettingen for school from other towns. However, 434 residents of Ettingen went to schools outside the municipality.
