Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a popular truck driving game where you get to drive across Europe. It was made by a company called SCS Software and you can play it on Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS computers. The game first came out on October 18, 2012. It's the second game in the Euro Truck Simulator series.
In the game, you drive big articulated trucks, which are the kind with a separate trailer that bends when you turn. You get to explore a giant map of Europe that is a smaller version of the real continent. Your main job is to pick up cargo from one city and deliver it to another.
As you play, you can earn money to buy your own trucks and garages. You can even hire other drivers to work for you and build a huge trucking business. The game is very popular, and by March 2021, it had sold over 9 million copies!

How to Play the Game
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a driving game mixed with a business simulation game. You drive your truck through an open world version of Europe. The goal is to deliver cargo to different cities to earn money and experience points.
You have to deliver your cargo on time and without damaging it. If you drive carefully, you earn more money and points. You also have to pay for fuel, tolls on some roads, and repairs if your truck gets damaged.
Starting Your Trucking Career
When you first start the game, you choose a city for your main garage. At the beginning, you don't have your own truck. You have to take "quick jobs," which means you work for other companies. They provide the truck and pay for fuel, so you can start earning money right away.
Once you save up enough money, or get a loan from the in-game bank, you can buy your very own truck. Having your own truck lets you take on better-paying jobs. You can also start hiring computer-controlled drivers to work for you and expand your business.
Growing Your Business
The money you earn can be used for many things. You can buy new trucks, upgrade the ones you have, and even buy your own trailers. You can also buy more garages in different cities to store your trucks and hire more drivers.
Every time you complete a delivery, you get experience points. When you level up, you get a skill point. You can use these points to unlock special skills, like:
- Carrying dangerous goods
- Making longer deliveries
- Transporting valuable or fragile cargo
- Completing urgent, high-paying jobs
These skills help you earn even more money and grow your company across Europe.
Exploring the World of ETS2
The game's map is always getting bigger and better. The developers at SCS Software release free updates to improve older parts of the map and add new details.
Countries in the Game
The original game included 12 countries to explore:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Czech Republic
- France (northeastern part)
- Germany
- Italy (northern part)
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Poland (western part)
- Slovakia (just the city of Bratislava)
- Switzerland
- Great Britain
Free Map Improvements
Over the years, many parts of the original map have been rebuilt for free to make them look as good as the newer areas.
- Germany: The entire country of Germany was rebuilt in several stages. The final update in November 2024 finished the project, making it the first completely rebuilt base game country.
- France: Many French cities like Dijon, Metz, Lille, and Lyon were improved in various updates.
- Austria: Austria received a complete visual overhaul in May 2022.
- Switzerland: In May 2024, Switzerland and the Rhine region of Germany were updated with new roads and better scenery.
Extra Content You Can Get
Besides the free updates, you can also buy extra content called DLC to add more to your game.
Some DLCs are paint job packs that let you customize your truck with cool designs. Others add licensed content from real companies, like new trailers from Schwarzmüller or tires from Goodyear and Michelin.
There are also special tuning packs for most truck brands that let you add more custom parts, like new lights and bull bars. You can even get a Cabin Accessories DLC to decorate the inside of your truck with things like flags and coffee cups.
For a bigger challenge, the Heavy Cargo and Special Transport DLCs let you haul huge and heavy loads. In Special Transport jobs, you have to follow escort vehicles and be extra careful because the cargo is so big!
