Geography and Nature

Exeter Township is in the northern part of Monroe County. It shares its northern border with Wayne County.

Location and Size

The center of the township is about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Monroe. Monroe is the main city and county seat for Monroe County.

The township covers a total area of about 36.65 square miles (94.92 km2). Most of this area, 36.54 square miles (94.64 km2), is land. Only a small part, about 0.11 square miles (0.28 km2), is water.

Waterways

Several creeks flow through Exeter Township.

  • Stony Creek runs through the middle of the township.
  • Swan Creek crosses the northeastern part.
  • Sandy Creek flows through the southwestern corner, right through the village of Maybee.

All these creeks flow southeast and eventually empty into Lake Erie. They are called "tributaries" because they feed into a larger body of water.
