PFC. Navbahor Namangan is a professional football club from Namangan, Uzbekistan. The club's name means New Spring. They play in the top football league in Uzbekistan, called the Uzbekistan Super League.

Club Name and Its Meaning

The name "Navbahor" comes from the Persian language. It means Now-Bahaar, which translates to New Spring.

Club History

Navbahor Namangan started in 1978. Back then, it was known as Tekstilshchik. The team played in the first league of Uzbekistan. For many years, they competed in regional zones of the Soviet Second League.

In 1990, Navbahor did very well. They finished second in their conference in the Soviet Second League. This success helped them move up to the Soviet First League. In 1991, they finished 9th in that league.

Since 1992, Navbahor has played in the Uzbek League. They are one of only three clubs that have played in every season of the Uzbek League. The other two are Pakhtakor and Neftchi Farg'ona.

In 1996, Navbahor Namangan became the champion of Uzbekistan. Before that, from 1993 to 1995, they finished in third place three times in a row. The club also won the Uzbekistan Supercup in 1999. This is a special match played between the league champion and the winner of the Uzbek Cup.

The club had a great year in 2004, finishing 3rd in the league. However, between 2008 and 2013, they faced some tough times. In 2009, they finished 14th, which was their lowest ranking ever. In January 2014, Bakhtiyor Ashurmatov became the new head coach.

Playing in the AFC Champions League

Navbahor finished second in the 2022 Uzbekistan Super League. This amazing result meant they qualified for the 2023–24 AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs. They played against Al-Wakrah from Qatar. The game was tied 0–0 after regular time. In extra time, Abdumannopov scored a goal in the 90th minute. This goal helped Navbahor qualify for their first-ever AFC Champions League group stage!

On September 18, 2023, the club earned their first point in the tournament. They drew 1–1 against Al-Hilal, a team that had won the AFC Champions League four times. This match took place at the King Fahd International Stadium. On October 2, 2023, Navbahor got their first win. They beat Mumbai City of India 3–0 at home.

Navbahor finished the group stage with 13 points. They were only 3 points behind the group leaders, Al-Hilal. This strong performance allowed them to move on to the Round of 16 in their very first season!

Home Stadium

Navbahor's home ground is the Markaziy Stadium. It was built in 1989 and could originally hold 35,000 people. This made it one of the largest football stadiums in Uzbekistan.

In 2011, the club announced plans to renovate the stadium. It was closed for a long time for reconstruction. The renovation work finished in the spring of 2014. The stadium reopened on May 29, 2014, with a special ceremony for the Barkamol avlod 2014 annual sporting games. The new stadium can now hold 22,000 spectators.

While their home stadium was being renovated from 2012 to 2014, the club played their home matches at the Kosonsoy Stadium. The first official match in the newly renovated Markaziy Stadium was on June 14, 2014. Navbahor played against Olmaliq FK and won 3–1.
