Federico Bernardeschi (born 16 February 1994) is an Italian professional footballer. He plays as a winger or attacking midfielder for Major League Soccer club Toronto FC. People sometimes call him "Brunelleschi" because of his great skills on the field. This nickname comes from a famous architect from Florence.
Bernardeschi started his football journey with local teams. In 2003, he joined the Fiorentina youth academy. He spent 10 years there before playing on loan for Crotone in the 2013–14 season. After that, he returned to Fiorentina.
In July 2017, Bernardeschi moved to Juventus. With Juventus, he won three Serie A titles in a row and other important trophies. In July 2022, he became a free agent and signed with Toronto FC in Canada.
Federico has also played for the Italian national team. He represented Italy at youth levels starting in 2011. He made his senior team debut in 2016. He was part of the Italian teams for UEFA Euro 2016 and UEFA Euro 2020, where Italy won the tournament.

Club Career
Early Years and First Steps
Bernardeschi started playing football when he was six years old. He first played for Atletico Carrara. A year later, he joined Ponzano, a football school connected to Empoli. In 2003, at age nine, he moved to Fiorentina's youth system.
After growing up through Fiorentina's youth teams, he was loaned to Crotone for the 2013–14 season. This was in Serie B, Italy's second division. He played his first professional game at 19 on 8 September 2013. He scored 12 goals in 39 games for Crotone that season.
In 2019, Bernardeschi shared that he had heart problems around age 16.
Playing for Fiorentina

On 20 June 2014, Fiorentina fully bought Bernardeschi's contract. He then joined the main team. In the 2014–15 season, he played 10 games and scored three goals. An ankle injury kept him out for part of that season.
He made his Serie A debut on 14 September 2014. Four days later, he played his first European game in the Europa League. He scored his first goal for Fiorentina in that game. He scored his first Serie A goal on 31 May 2015.
For the 2015–16 season, he was given the number 10 shirt. This number was worn by famous players like Roberto Baggio. On 26 November 2015, Bernardeschi scored two goals in a Europa League game against Basel.
Time at Juventus

2017–18 Season
On 24 July 2017, Bernardeschi joined Juventus for €40 million. Juventus is a big rival of Fiorentina. He chose the number 33 shirt, saying he needed to earn the number 10.
He played his first game for Juventus on 13 August. On 12 September, he made his UEFA Champions League debut. On 1 October, he started his first game for Juventus and scored his first goal for the club. He also set up another goal. He scored his first Champions League goal on 5 December.
2018–2022 Seasons
Bernardeschi scored his first goal of the 2018–19 season on 18 August 2018. He scored the winning goal in injury time against Chievo. On 12 March 2019, he helped Juventus win 3–0 against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. He earned a penalty kick and made an assist in that match.
On 4 July 2020, Bernardeschi played his 100th game for Juventus. On 26 July, he scored his only league goal of the season. This goal helped Juventus win the Serie A title.
During the 2020–21 season, his coach Andrea Pirlo sometimes played him as a full-back. Bernardeschi did well in this new position.
Moving to Toronto FC
On 15 July 2022, Bernardeschi signed with Major League Soccer club Toronto FC. He joined as a special player called a "designated player." He met up with his Italian teammates Lorenzo Insigne and Domenico Criscito there.
He played his first game for Toronto FC on 23 July 2022. In that game, he helped set up a goal and scored one himself. This great start earned him a spot on the MLS Team of the Week. On 1 April 2023, he scored a goal directly from a corner kick. This is a rare goal called an "Olympico."
On May 18, 2024, Bernardeschi scored his first three goals in a single MLS game (a hat-trick). This happened in a 5-1 win against rivals C.F. Montréal.
International Career
Youth Teams
On 5 March 2014, Bernardeschi played his first game for the Italy under-21 team. He played in the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2015.
In June 2017, he was part of the Italy under-21 team for the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. In a group match on 24 June, Bernardeschi scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Germany. This win helped Italy reach the semi-finals. Italy lost to Spain in the semi-finals, but Bernardeschi scored Italy's goal. He was chosen for the team of the tournament.
Senior National Team

Bernardeschi was first called up to the senior national team in March 2016. He made his international debut on 24 March in a game against Spain. On 31 May, he was named to Italy's squad for UEFA Euro 2016. He scored his first senior international goal on 11 June 2017. This was in a World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein.
On 12 October 2019, Bernardeschi scored in a 2–0 win against Greece. This win helped Italy qualify for Euro 2020.
In June 2021, Bernardeschi was part of Italy's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. On 6 July, in the semi-final against Spain, the game ended in a 1–1 draw. Bernardeschi scored his penalty kick in the shoot-out, helping Italy win 4–2 and reach the final. On 11 July, Italy won the European Championship. They beat England 3–2 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1–1 draw. Bernardeschi came on as a substitute and scored Italy's fourth penalty kick.
How He Plays
Bernardeschi is a fast, strong, and creative player. He is very good with the ball and can score goals. He mainly uses his left foot. He is known for his speed and how well he can dribble past opponents. He can also shoot powerfully and accurately from far away.
His favorite position is as a winger on the right side. From there, he can cut inside and either shoot or create chances for his teammates. He can also play on the left side. Bernardeschi is very flexible and can play in many different roles. He can play as an attacking midfielder, a central playmaker, or even as a wing-back. He is also good at taking free kicks and penalties.
Bernardeschi has said that famous players like Francesco Totti and Roberto Baggio were his idols. People have compared his playing style to these great players. He is nicknamed Brunelleschi because of his elegant way of playing.
Personal Life
In May 2019, Bernardeschi and his partner Veronica Ciardi had their first daughter, Deva. In May 2021, they welcomed their second daughter, Lena. On 13 July 2021, Bernardeschi and Veronica got married. This was just two days after Italy won the Euro 2020 tournament. Their wedding took place in his hometown.
