Fiona Shaw (born Fiona Mary Wilson on July 10, 1958) is a talented actress from Ireland. She is well-known for her work in movies, TV shows, and plays. She has performed with famous groups like the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Fiona Shaw has won many important awards for her acting. She received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress twice, in 1990 and 1994, for her roles in plays like Electra and Machinal. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for her role in the play Medea on Broadway.
Many people know her as Petunia Dursley from the Harry Potter movies. She also appeared in other films such as Enola Holmes (2020) and Ammonite (2020).
On television, Fiona Shaw played Carolyn Martens in the popular series Killing Eve (2018–2022). For this role, she won a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also appeared in Fleabag (2019) and the Star Wars TV series Andor (2022).

Early Life and Education
Fiona Mary Wilson was born on July 10, 1958, in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Her father was a surgeon and her mother was a physicist. Fiona was the second of four children.
She went to secondary school in Cork and then studied philosophy at University College Cork. After that, she moved to London to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). She graduated in 1982. When she joined the actors' union, she had to change her name because another actress was already named Fiona Wilson. She chose "Shaw" from her grandmother's family name.
Acting Career
Theatre Performances
Fiona Shaw started her theatre career in 1983. She performed in many plays with the Royal National Theatre. Some of her early roles included Julia in The Rivals (1983) and Celia in As You Like It (1984).
In 1995, she took on a unique role, playing the male lead in Richard II. She also performed T. S. Eliot's famous poem The Waste Land as a one-person show in New York in 1996. This performance was highly praised.
She has played lead roles in many classic plays, such as Electra (1988), Hedda Gabler (1991), and Medea (2000). She often worked with director Deborah Warner, creating many memorable shows together. In 2013, she received a special award for her performance in The Testament of Mary on Broadway.
Film and Television Roles
Fiona Shaw has had a long and successful career in film and television. In 1989, she appeared in the film My Left Foot. She also played Miss Lomax in Three Men and a Little Lady (1990).
One of her most famous roles is Petunia Dursley, Harry Potter's aunt, in five of the Harry Potter movies. She also appeared in Super Mario Bros. (1993) and Jane Eyre (1996).
On television, she played Marnie Stonebrook in the American TV show True Blood in 2011. In 2013, she was in an episode of Agatha Christie's Marple.
From 2018 to 2022, Fiona Shaw starred as Carolyn Martens in the BBC America series Killing Eve. This role earned her a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also had a memorable role as a counselor in the series Fleabag (2019). In 2022, she joined the Star Wars universe, playing Maarva Andor in the series Andor. In 2024, she appeared in True Detective.

Fiona Shaw is married to Sri Lankan economist Sonali Deraniyagala. They got married in 2018. Fiona lives in Islington, North London. She was raised in the Catholic faith.
