People have lived in the area around Fischbach-Göslikon for a very long time. Scientists have found tools from the Stone Age here. The first real signs of a settlement are two ancient graves from the Hallstatt culture. This culture existed thousands of years ago.

The towns of Fischbach and Göslikon started in the Middle Ages. They were first mentioned in old writings around the 1100s. Back then, powerful families like the Habsburgs ruled the area. Later, in 1415, the Swiss took over.

Churches and Changes

The local church was built a very long time ago, in 1048. It belonged to a monastery called Muri Abbey. Later, it came under the control of a hospital in Baden. In the 1500s, the Protestant Reformation brought big changes to religion in Europe. Fischbach-Göslikon also saw these changes. Even though the Reformation happened, most people in the town today are still Roman Catholic.

The church building was rebuilt in 1671-72 and then again in a fancy style called Rococo in 1757-60. A new small chapel was also added in 1709.

Merging Towns

In 1798, the two separate towns of Fischbach and Göslikon officially joined together. They have grown closer over time. However, the local citizen communities stayed separate until 1997.

Old Industries and the River

In the 1800s, Fischbach-Göslikon had some interesting industries. A factory opened that processed peat, which is a type of soil used for fuel. Another big factory made things by straw plaiting, like hats or baskets. This factory was quite large for the time, employing many people. A gravel plant also opened near the Reuss River. The Reuss River itself was changed several times between 1811 and 1950 to control its flow and shape the land.
