Florac was a small town in France. It was located in the Lozère department, which is part of the Occitanie region. Florac was also the main town, or subprefecture, of its local area called an arrondissement.
On January 1, 2016, Florac joined with another town to form a new, bigger commune called Florac Trois Rivières. People from Florac are called Floracois in French.

Exploring Florac's Location
Florac is nestled in a valley. This valley is formed by the Tarnon river. The Tarnon is a small river that flows into the bigger Tarn river. Florac is also found right at the beginning of the Gorges du Tarn. These are deep canyons carved by the Tarn river.
The town and the Tarnon valley are very close to the Cévennes National Park. This park is a protected natural area. However, Florac itself is not actually inside the park.
The area of Florac is about 29.89 square kilometers (about 11.54 square miles). The town sits at an average height of 542 meters (about 1,778 feet) above sea level.
