Fourmile Canyon Creek is a small stream in Colorado. It is also known as Four Mile Canyon Creek. This creek is a tributary of Boulder Creek. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one.

The creek starts northwest of the city of Boulder, Colorado. It then flows through the northern part of Boulder for some of its journey. It's important not to confuse this creek with another stream that has a similar name. That other stream runs through Fourmile Canyon, west of Boulder. It was the location of a large wildfire in 2010.

Where Fourmile Canyon Creek Flows

Fourmile Canyon Creek begins west of an old mining town called Sunshine. From there, it flows east through the foothills of the Front Range. The Front Range is a part of the Rocky Mountains.

The creek is located in Boulder County, Colorado. It flows south of Left Hand Canyon and north of Sunshine Canyon. After leaving the mountains, the creek reaches the flat plains near Lee Hill Road in northern Boulder.

It then travels about 5 mi (8.0 km) further east across the plains. Finally, it joins Boulder Creek near a place called Valmont. The spot where two streams meet is called a confluence.

Nature and Safety Along the Creek

The area around Fourmile Canyon Creek is home to Boulder Open Space land. This means the land is protected for nature and public use. There is also a trailhead here, which is a starting point for hiking trails. You can find the Anne U. White Trail along the creek.

Fourmile Canyon Creek is a seasonal stream in the plains. This means it doesn't flow all year round. It can sometimes dry up during certain seasons.

Even though it can be dry, the creek is part of efforts to prevent flash floods. A flash flood is a very sudden and fast flood. These efforts help protect the areas around the creek from too much water after heavy rains.
