Haslen was once a small town, known as a municipality, located in the beautiful canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Think of a canton like a state or a region within a country. Haslen was a part of Switzerland's rich history for many years.
Haslen's History and Mergers
Over time, towns sometimes join together to form bigger communities. This happened to Haslen in two important steps.
First, on July 1, 2006, Haslen joined with two nearby municipalities: Leuggelbach and Nidfurn. They became one larger community.
Later, on January 1, 2011, an even bigger change happened. Haslen and many other former municipalities in the area all merged together. These included Betschwanden, Braunwald, Elm, Engi, Linthal, Luchsingen, Matt, Mitlödi, Rüti, Schwanden, Schwändi, and Sool. All these towns became part of a brand new, larger municipality called Glarus Süd.
