The Humboldt Range is a group of mountains in northwest Nevada, USA. These mountains run mostly from north to south. They stretch from the town of Imlay in the north down to where they meet the West Humboldt Range in the south.

The Humboldt Range is easy to spot for people traveling along Interstate 80. The highest point, Star Peak, stands out with its sharp tip. It reaches an elevation of 9,836 feet (2,998 meters). This peak is located in the middle of the northern part of the range.

Where is the Humboldt Range?

The Humboldt Range is located in Pershing County, Nevada. It is part of a special landscape called the "basin-and-range" pattern. This means Nevada has many mountain ranges separated by flat valleys.

On its western side, the range is bordered by Interstate 80 and the Humboldt River. The river expands into a large body of water called the Rye Patch Reservoir in this area. To the east, there is a long and wide valley known as the Buena Vista Valley.

Star Peak: The Highest Point

Star Peak is the tallest mountain in the Humboldt Range. It reaches an impressive height of 9,836 feet (2,998 meters). Its pointed top makes it a very noticeable landmark.

The middle part of the mountain range is known as Fourth of July Flat. This area is a good spot to see the surrounding landscape.

History and Famous Towns

The Humboldt Range is also known for its interesting history. On the eastern side of the mountains, there is a famous old town called Unionville. For a short time, this town was home to the famous writer Samuel Clemens.

Another historical place nearby is called Star City. Today, Star City is a ghost town. This means it was once a busy place but is now mostly empty.

Nature and Activities

Unlike some other mountain ranges nearby, the Humboldt Range is tall enough to have many streams and rivers that flow all year round. These flowing waters create beautiful natural areas.

Hiking in the Humboldt Range is a popular activity. The varied terrain offers many trails for people to explore.
