Iran first joined the exciting world of the Paralympic Games in 1988. This was at the Summer Games held in Seoul, South Korea. Since then, Iranian athletes have shown amazing skill and determination, winning many medals.

Iran's Paralympic Medals

The Paralympics are a huge international sports event for athletes with disabilities. Just like the Olympics, they happen every four years. Iran has competed in both the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.

Summer Paralympic Medals

Iran has had great success at the Summer Paralympics. They have won a total of 136 medals! This includes 55 gold, 37 silver, and 44 bronze medals. Their best performance was at the 2012 London Games, where they won 24 medals and ranked 11th overall.

Winter Paralympic Medals

The Winter Paralympics feature sports like skiing and snowboarding. Iran has sent athletes to the Winter Games since 1998. However, they have not yet won any medals in these events.

Iranian athletes have excelled in several sports at the Summer Paralympics. Athletics (track and field) has brought in the most medals. Powerlifting and Sitting Volleyball are also very strong sports for Iran.

Notable Iranian Paralympians

Many Iranian athletes have become champions at the Paralympic Games. They have shown incredible dedication and strength.

  • Siamand Rahman was a legendary powerlifter. He won gold medals in 2012 and 2016. He was known for lifting incredibly heavy weights.
  • Zahra Nemati is a famous archer. She won gold medals in archery in both 2012 and 2016. She is also special because she competed in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games!
  • Mohammad Khalvandi is a javelin thrower who won gold medals in 2012 and 2016.
  • The Men's Sitting Volleyball team has been incredibly successful. They have won many gold medals over the years, showing great teamwork.

These athletes, and many others, have made Iran proud with their achievements. They inspire many people around the world.
