Jason Kelvin Scotland, born on February 18, 1979, is a former professional football player from Trinidad and Tobago. He is now a coach for Larkhall Thistle. He last played for Hamilton Academical in Scotland.
Jason Scotland started his football career in his home country, Trinidad and Tobago. Later, he moved to Scotland to play professionally for Dundee United. He also played for other teams like St Johnstone, Swansea City, Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town, and Barnsley.
He played 41 international games for the Trinidad and Tobago national team between 2000 and 2012, scoring 8 goals. He was part of the team for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Jason Scotland's Club Career
Starting Out and Playing for Dundee United
Jason Scotland was born in Morvant, Trinidad and Tobago. He played for Malick Senior Comprehensive School before joining San Juan Jabloteh. There, he scored nine goals in nine league games. After that, he played for Defence Force, where he scored 30 goals in 31 league games.
Because of his great goal-scoring, he got a chance to try out for the Scottish team Dundee United in May 2003. He impressed the coaches and joined the club in July, after getting a work permit.
Jason Scotland played his first game for Dundee United in August 2003. In his first season, he often came on as a substitute. In March, he scored his first goal for the team in a 3–2 win against Livingston. A few days later, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 home win against Motherwell. He scored five league goals in 21 games that season and earned a new contract.
In his second season, he scored his first goal in late December. In April, he scored a very important goal in the Scottish Cup semi-final. This goal helped Dundee United reach the final. He played the whole game in the final, but his team lost 1–0 to Celtic.
Time with St Johnstone
In July 2005, Jason Scotland faced a problem with his work permit. However, St Johnstone, a team in the Scottish First Division, managed to get him a work permit.
In his first season with St Johnstone, he scored 15 goals in 31 league games. This included a goal in his first game and a hat-trick in April. He was also chosen to be part of Trinidad and Tobago's team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
In his second season, he scored 18 league goals. He even scored against his old club, Dundee United, in a League Cup match. The United fans gave him a warm welcome despite the goal. In February 2007, he scored a goal against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup. By the end of the 2006–07 season, Jason Scotland had scored 33 goals in 66 league games for St Johnstone. This means he scored a goal every two games.
Playing for Swansea City
In May 2007, Jason Scotland joined Swansea City for £25,000. He scored in his first game for the club. He helped the team get promoted to the Football League Championship. He finished the season as the top scorer in the division with 29 goals. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.
On March 10, 2009, he scored his 50th goal for Swansea in all competitions. This goal was a penalty kick against Plymouth Argyle.
Moving to Wigan Athletic
Jason Scotland signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic on July 18, 2009. He played his first game for Wigan as a stoppage time substitute in a 2–0 win against Aston Villa. He scored his first goal for Wigan in an FA Cup game against Notts County in January 2010. His first league goal for the club came in April 2010, in his 29th league game.
Joining Ipswich Town
On August 23, 2010, Jason Scotland signed a two-year deal with Ipswich Town. He made his Ipswich debut in a League Cup game against Crewe. He then scored his first league goal for the club in his league debut against Bristol City on August 28, 2010.
He left Ipswich Town on January 21, 2013. Some fans were sad to see him go because he had become a favorite player, often coming on as an impact substitute.
Time with Barnsley
On January 28, 2013, Jason Scotland joined Barnsley, a Championship team. He played his first game for Barnsley as a substitute in a 2–0 win against Millwall. He scored the second goal just a few minutes after coming onto the field.
On May 4, 2013, he scored Barnsley's second goal in a 2–2 draw against Huddersfield Town. This goal helped Barnsley earn a point, which kept them in the Championship for another season.
Playing for Hamilton Academical
On January 22, 2014, Jason Scotland joined Hamilton Academical for free. He scored against Hibernian in a play-off game on May 25. He also scored in the penalty shootout that followed, helping Hamilton win promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
He was released by Hamilton in January 2015, but then re-signed with the club later that month. He left Hamilton again after the 2014–15 season.
Later Career
Jason Scotland signed a short-term contract with Stenhousemuir in October 2015. Later, in February 2018, he joined Lochee Harp, a team based in Dundee.
International Career
Jason Scotland played his first game for Trinidad and Tobago in 2000. He played in 41 international games and scored 8 goals for his country. He was part of the team that played in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any games during the 2006 World Cup. In September 2011, he announced that he was retiring from international football to focus on his club career with Ipswich Town.
Coaching Career
In 2017, Jason Scotland returned to Hamilton Academical, one of his former clubs. He became a coach there, helping to train their forwards and assisting with their youth teams. He left the club in January 2019. Before the start of the 2021 season, Jason joined the coaching team at Larkhall Thistle.
