Jonathan Phillip Ogden (born July 31, 1974) is a famous former football player. He played as an offensive tackle for his entire career with the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). Jonathan was known for being a very strong and skilled player.

He played college football for the UCLA Bruins. There, he was recognized as a unanimous All-American, which means he was considered one of the best college players by all major selectors. The Baltimore Ravens chose him as their very first draft pick in 1996. He was the 4th player picked overall in the 1996 NFL draft.

Jonathan Ogden was chosen for the Pro Bowl 11 times and was named an All-Pro nine times. He helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XXXV in 2001. In 2013, he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was the first player to spend his whole career with the Ravens and be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Early Life and High School Sports

Jonathan Ogden was born in Washington, D.C.. He went to St. Albans School in Washington. At school, he was excellent in both football and track and field. He was even named a high school All-American in both sports.

He showed great strength in track and field. He could throw the shot put 19.23 meters (about 63 feet). He also threw the discus throw 56.73 meters (about 186 feet).

College Football Career

Ogden chose to go to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He picked UCLA over the University of Florida because the Bruins football coaches allowed him to also compete in track and field.

As a sophomore, he helped UCLA win the 1993 Pac-10 Championship. They also played in the Rose Bowl that year. In 1996, he won the NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in the shot put. His best throw was 19.42 meters.

Jonathan had an amazing career with the UCLA football team. He started as a left tackle for four years. In his junior and senior years, he only allowed two sacks in 23 games. This means he was very good at protecting his team's quarterback. In 1995, he won the Outland Trophy and the Morris Trophy. He was also named the UPI Lineman of the Year and was a unanimous All-American.

UCLA honored Jonathan Ogden by retiring his jersey number 79. He was only the eighth player in the school's history to receive this special honor. In 2006, he was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame. Later, in 2012, he was added to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Jonathan Ogden was known for his friendly smile. Former New York Giants player Michael Strahan once joked, "Jonathan would rip your limbs off, and he'd smile...and wave your arm in front of you." This shows that even though he was friendly, he was also a very tough player on the field. Many people consider him one of the best offensive tackles ever to play football.

In 2001, Ogden won a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens. They beat the New York Giants 34–7 in Super Bowl XXXV. Jonathan Ogden announced his retirement from football on June 12, 2008. Life Outside Football

In 1997, Jonathan Ogden started the Jonathan Ogden Foundation. This foundation helps student-athletes learn to be responsible for their future. It teaches them lessons from sports, school, and their communities.

In 2009, he was chosen for Sporting News' Magazine's Team of the Decade (2000s). In 2010, he was ranked 72nd on the list of NFL's top 100 players.
