The main town and center of the county is Anson. Jones County was created in 1858 and officially started in 1881. Both the county and its main town are named after Anson Jones. He was the fourth and last president of the Republic of Texas.
Jones County is part of the larger Abilene area, which is a group of cities and towns connected by jobs and daily life.
