The Kananaskis Range is a group of mountains in the Canadian Rockies. You can find it west of the Kananaskis River in Alberta, Canada. This mountain range is known for its tall, rugged peaks.
Many of the mountains here have interesting names. Some are named after ships and people who were part of a big naval battle called the Battle of Jutland. This battle happened a long time ago during World War I.
How Mountains Get Their Names
Many peaks in the Kananaskis Range are named after important people. These people often explored the area or settled there a long time ago.
For example, Mount Bogart is named after D.B. Dowling. Bogart was his mother's maiden name and also his middle name. D.B. Dowling was a surveyor. He mapped out this area in the early 1900s for the Geographical Society of Canada.
The Tower mountain got its name from Francis George Towers. He was one of the first homesteaders in the region. A homesteader is someone who settles on land to farm it.
Mount McDougal is named after Archie McDougal. He was another early homesteader from a place called Carstairs. Mount Evans Thomas is named after Thomas Oldham Evans, who was also an early homesteader in the area. These names help us remember the people who first explored and lived in this beautiful mountain region.
