Jacobus Eije "Koos" Andriessen (born July 25, 1928 – died January 22, 2019) was a Dutch politician and businessman. He was a member of the Christian Historical Union (CHU) party and later the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party.

Koos Andriessen's Early Career

Koos Andriessen started his career as a researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 1951 to 1955. After that, he worked as a civil servant for the Ministry of Economic Affairs from 1955 to 1959. During this time, he was a Director-General in different departments.

From 1959 to 1963, Andriessen was a professor of Political economy at the University of Amsterdam. He also worked as a financial adviser for the Ministry of Finance during these years.

First Time as Minister

After the 1963 Dutch general election, Koos Andriessen became the Minister of Economic Affairs. He started this important job on July 24, 1963, as part of the Marijnen cabinet. This government group worked until April 14, 1965.

Working in Business

After his first time as a minister, Andriessen left politics for a while. He started working in the business world. From 1965 to 1987, he was a director at Van Leer, a company that made packaging. He even became the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and Chairman of the board of directors in 1980.

In 1987, he became the Chairman of the Christian Employers' association (NCW). This meant he represented many Christian businesses.

Return to Politics

After the 1989 Dutch general election, Koos Andriessen returned to government. He was again appointed as the Minister of Economic Affairs on November 7, 1989. This was in the Third Lubbers cabinet.

He also served as a temporary Minister of Transport and Water Management for a short time in 1994. This happened after the previous minister resigned. Andriessen decided to retire from national politics in 1993 and did not run in the 1994 election. His time in the government ended on August 22, 1994.

Later Life and Contributions

After retiring from politics, Koos Andriessen continued to be active in both private and public organizations. He served on the boards of many companies and non-profit groups. Some of these included ING Group, Hunter Douglas, Ballast Nedam, and Elsevier. He also served on several government commissions.
