Where Are the Lakeview Mountains?

The Lakeview Mountains are surrounded by different areas. Knowing their borders helps you find them on a map.

Two smaller communities, Juniper Flats and MacLean Ranch, are actually inside the Lakeview Mountains.

How Tall Are the Mountains?

The highest point in the Lakeview Mountains is about 2,673 feet (815 meters) above sea level. This is like stacking almost 500 average-sized people on top of each other!

Mount Rudolph is another important peak. It stands tall at about 2,595 feet (791 meters) high. You can find it at the northern end of the mountain range.

Ancient Art: The Hemet Maze Stone

In a place called Reinhardt Canyon, on the eastern side of the mountains, you can find a very old piece of art. It's a prehistoric petroglyph known as the Hemet Maze Stone.

What is a Petroglyph?

A petroglyph is a picture or symbol carved into rock. People from ancient times made these carvings. The Hemet Maze Stone is a special one, recognized as California Historical Landmark No. 557. This means it's an important historical site in California.

Plants and Geology of the Lakeview Mountains

The Lakeview Mountains are home to specific types of plants and have an interesting geological history.

What Plants Grow Here?

The main types of plants you'll see in the Lakeview Mountains are part of two plant communities:

  • Coastal Sage Scrub: This includes many shrubs and small plants that are good at living in dry, sunny areas.
  • Montane Chaparral and Woodlands: This community has tougher shrubs and some trees. They are adapted to the mountain environment.

What Are the Mountains Made Of?

The Lakeview Mountains are mostly made of a type of rock called tonalite. This rock formed a very long time ago, during the Cretaceous period. This was the same time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth! The mountains are the main visible part of a large underground rock formation called the Lakeview Mountains Pluton.
