This article lists short films that appeared on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, and the Nick Jr. Channel. These short shows were often shown between regular programs. They sometimes introduced new characters or explored fun ideas.

Nickelodeon USA: Original Short Series

Inside-Out Boy

These shorts were about a boy who accidentally flipped inside-out while swinging. The animation was made using clay, which is called claymation. You could see these shorts on Rugrats VHS tapes.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete

This series became a full show later on Nickelodeon.

Nick Days (1994–1997)

These short videos, only 30 seconds long, talked about a different holiday each day. Some were real holidays, and some were made up just for the series!

Orange Carpet

This series of shorts has been around for a long time. It used to be called "Nicksclusive." It promotes movies or gives a behind-the-scenes look at Nickelodeon shows.

The Non-Adventures of Safety Queen

These shorts were made by Gary Baseman. They featured a girl named Safety Queen. She tried to help kids with their fears by telling them silly things that might happen if they faced their fears. But the kids would ignore her, do it anyway, and find out there was nothing to be scared of!

As Our School Bus Turns

This short series was a funny parody of a soap opera, but it took place on a school bus. A pilot episode for a show called Bus No. 9 was made based on these shorts.

  • New Kid: A new kid named Fenris meets the school bully, Felix, and scares him away.
  • Jessica and Cosmo: Jessica tries to say hello to her crush, Cosmo, but decides it's not the right time.
  • Birthday Party: Jessica worries her upcoming birthday party might be too childish.
  • Dog Food: A rumor spreads that Nestor ate dog food. Nestor looks for the person who started it.
  • Sandwich: Fenris's friend shows off a huge sandwich called the "Clogger." Fenris tries hard not to eat it.

Inside Eddie Johnson

In these shorts, journalists reported from inside a kid's body! Some shorts were shown, and it was almost made into a TV series.

Natalie's Backseat Traveling Webshow

When Natalie found out her family was moving from New York to California, she decided to start her own web show. These shorts were shown online.

A Show of Hands

This series later became a TV show.

Ted the Head

These shorts were about a boy who was just a head.

The Girl with Her Head Coming Off

This character could remove her head and remember things from her past before putting it back on. One short where she remembered her boyfriend was shown on KaBlam!.

I Am Poem

This short brought kids' poems to life! Artists, dancers, photographers, and animators used their skills to show what the young poets' words meant visually.

TechNick

A teenager answered questions about computers and the internet in these shorts. Nine of them were made in 1999.

Nick Extra (2005–2008)

From 2005 to 2008, commercial breaks on Nickelodeon often started or ended with a "Nick Extra" short. These included:

  • Quicktoons: Short animations ending with the Nickelodeon logo.
  • Interpretives: Nickelodeon characters made from different objects.
  • A Closer Look and Inside the Nicktoons Studio: Videos showing how Nickelodeon shows were made.
  • Fanimation: Short animations based on stories sent in by viewers.
  • Puzzles where you had to guess a Nickelodeon character.
  • Purple and Brown: Shorts with two clay blobs, made by Aardman.
  • Neopets: Animations based on the web game.

Nickelodeon USA: One-Shot Shorts

The Rebus (1990)

This was a two-part short. Wendell Craig and a young girl tried to solve a claymation puzzle. Wendell couldn't figure it out, but the girl solved it in the second part!

We Are The Shrimpskins (1995)

This live-action short was about two characters, Slim and Wally, called the Shrimpskins. They wanted to trade their couch for a new one to win a fun weekend. Wally cut their couch into small pieces to mail it, and even though another family won, the Shrimpskins were named the "craziest people in the world"!

Zoom (1996)

This was an animated version of a book by Istvan Banyai.

Innie and Outie (1996)

Two friends, Innie and Outie, went to see a movie. The funny thing was, their faces were actually people's stomachs with features drawn on them!

The Right to Express Yourself (1997)

This short was about a boy named Zeebo who loved to express himself. His dad didn't like it at first, but eventually, they decided to express themselves together. This story was animated by Pixar and made for UNICEF.

Antics (1998)

In this computer-animated short, ants played with a hula hoop-like object. One ant didn't want to share, but eventually, they all got a turn. This short aired on both Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.

Nickelodeon USA: Acquired Shorts

From 1981 to 2000, Nickelodeon often showed short films during commercial breaks. These were called Nickelodeon Short Feature or Nickelodeon Breakaways. Many were acquired, meaning Nickelodeon bought them from other creators.

Watt the Devil

These very short videos, less than 30 seconds, were made in Britain. They showed Watt the devil trying to do something, but he often ended up hurting or embarrassing himself!

Sports Cartoons

Muppet Beach Party

The Muppets sang "Kokomo" and "Wipe Out" in two music videos. These videos were shown on Nickelodeon in the mid-1990s.

Hocle and Stoty

Hocle and Stoty was a short puppet show on Nick Jr.. It was created by David and Adam Rudman.

What it's about Two oddly shaped puppet creatures, Hocle and Stoty, had funny adventures in Twilo Park.

  • Hocle is a tall, pink creature with a high-pitched voice. He wears a bowler hat.
  • Stoty is a short, yellow creature with a low, rumbling voice. He also wears a bowler hat.

These shorts encouraged kids to count to 10 twice. The second time, they would count in a different language!

Max and His Alphabet Adventures

Max would tell a story about an adventure he had with a letter of the alphabet. His stories included many words that started with that letter. At the end of each short, his dad would tell him to go to sleep.

Muppet Time

Jim Henson Productions made 40 short videos, each 2-3 minutes long, featuring new Muppet characters. Kermit's nephew, Robin, appeared in the opening of these shorts.

These shorts showed clips of animals doing different things.

A balanced lunch would come out of Joey's lunchbox and perform a skit. These shorts encouraged healthy eating.

Flexy's Little Big Question (1996)

This was a spin-off from Little Big Room. Flexy would sit on a bench with two children and ask them a question.

Countin' Carl was a superhero who helped children with problems related to counting up to a certain number.

Amby and Dexter

Amby & Dexter was a series of animated shorts on Nick Jr. in 1997. The characters, Amby and Dexter, were tiny, dressed humans who came from a pair of hands. They would solve problems without speaking. Amby was playful and loved to dance, while Dexter was more serious. After they finished their task, they would turn back into a pair of hands.

This series showed animated stories, short videos with Bill Cosby, or songs from Blue's Big Musical Movie.

Nanalan'

Just Ask! (2000)

In these shorts, an adult would correct a child's misunderstanding about something. The answer was shown with simple animation.

Very Aggressive Vegetables

These shorts were made for Nickelodeon Australia. They were about kids insulting a vegetable, and then the vegetable would come to life, get angry, and destroy snacks or yell at the kid!

Balinese Slapping Fish

These shorts starred Angus King playing many different characters.

Gordon Bleugh

These shorts were made using claymation. They showed the funny problems of a claymation green frog dressed as a chef. He often faced issues like broken equipment or a fly buzzing in his kitchen.

Schoolyard Safari

A young boy in this series would document different types of boys he saw at school.

Foul Facts

This short series, made for Nickelodeon Australia, taught kids about seemingly gross bodily fluids and symptoms, like earwax or stinky feet. It aired for 10 episodes.

The Presentators

This was a stop-motion series about three hosts named Stefan, Brian, and Dan. They would host Nickelodeon (or Nicktoons in the U.S.) and often fool around on camera. It was made by Aardman Animations.

The Adventures of Napman

This Australian animated series aired in 2005. It was about a superhero named Napman who was always sleeping on his cot. His dog, Billy, would pull his cot around and always save the day. But Napman would get all the credit, even though he never woke up!

The Undersea Monkeys

This series of one-minute shorts aired on Nickelodeon UK. It featured three funny undersea monkeys who had adventures. They were once sent to outer space by an evil robot to be eaten by aliens! Other adventures included disarming a bomb and escaping a self-destructing underwater station.

Nicktoons Network

Thumb Wrestling Federation

This was a live-action series featuring thumbs and thumb puppets! It was shown on Nicktoons Network from 2006-2007. The show was about thumb wrestling matches between two teams: The Mighty Dexteras and The Evil Sinistras.

Tortellini Western

These animated shorts were about an Italian-American family, but with a fun cowboy twist! It first appeared in 2004.

Leader Dog

These shorts told the adventures of an ordinary dog. He was captured by aliens who thought he was the "Earth's leader." Leader lived on their home planet and taught the aliens about being a dog, like chasing mailmen.

Fowl Play

The name of this short is a pun on "foul play." In Fowl Play, penguins and ducks played an exciting soccer game with music. At the end, a team of three ostriches would catch the ball, ready to challenge them!

Short Films by Short People

In 1995, Nickelodeon started showing short films made by children. The kids created these films based on a given idea. Each short ended with a segment showing how it was made. These shorts were first shown during Nickelodeon's SNICK block.

  • "Foil Man" (November 11, 1995): A tin foil man shows what it means to be a hero.
  • "Rainbow's Dance" (1995): A girl brings magical graffiti to a grayscale world.
  • "Attack of the Giant Vulture" (December 23, 1995): A huge vulture chases a girl in the city.
  • "The Piranha and the Mailman" (1996): A prime minister declares war, and a mailman and piranha try to make peace.
  • "Double Trouble" (1996): Two British twin schoolgirls drive their strict teacher crazy.
  • "Happy Birthday 2 U & U & U" (1997): In a future with computers, an alien helps a lonely granny celebrate her birthday.
  • "Nothing Weird" (1997): Two kids run a TV network showing weird things, but a lazy kid makes the world boring.

  • "The Adventures of Hervic in Cloudland" (1998): Hervic goes on a journey to remember his mother.
  • "Your Typical Eight Year Old" (1998)
  • "The Great Switcheroo" (1999): A girl switches her baby brother's food with dog food to get attention.
  • "Love on the Line" (2000): A dog and a flea host a love-themed call-in show.
  • "Attack of the Hideous Pimple": Hawaii needs to get rid of a pimple before the school dance.

KaBlam! Presents

Thirty shorts from KaBlam! were shown during Nickelodeon's Nicktoons TV block. These included shorts like Sniz & Fondue, Action League Now!, Prometheus and Bob, and Life with Loopy. Life with Loopy and Prometheus and Bob were shown most often.

Toons From Planet Orange (1998/2000)

Spider and Fly This was a series of claymation shorts about a spider trying to catch a fly. The fly always managed to outsmart the spider!

Snout This series was about animals with snouts who danced to music. They also babysat two baboon twins, leading to chaos.

Ego from Mars This was about a group of aliens and a robot who tried to take over Earth, but they always failed.

Frog's Life/Vida De Sapos Two frogs tried to cross a busy road. The big frog got run over, even though the little frog warned him!

Toons from Planet Orange II

The second season of Toons from Planet Orange was shown as a TV special in other countries. In the U.S., these shorts aired on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons.

The Boy from Woy This short was about a boy with a rubber glove on his head. He had a magical remote control that could stop, fast forward, and rewind things, similar to the movie Click.

Jerk Chicken & Fish Out of Water This was about a chicken who became a police officer and a fish who just sat there. The chicken would push people around, but the fish would save the day.

Bobby the Lizard Boy This short was about a half-iguana, half-boy named Bobby and his babysitter, Laura. Bobby tried to ruin all her plans and ended up eating her!

Ernie & Trafalgar Ernie's dog, Trafalgar, needed to "water the tree." Just crossing the street became a big adventure for them.

Monster Vs Monster A brother and sister would imagine monsters fighting each other during bedtime.

Music Monster This one-time short was about a monster who sang and tried to get some milk.

The Little Freaks This was a one-time short about three friends with unusual features (one girl had three eyes, there were Siamese twins, and one boy had a brain in a glass). They saved the world from a villain named Noface.

CatDog

These were the two pilot films for the show CatDog that aired before the full series began.

Astrology with Squidward

This series of shorts aired from 2000 to 2001. Squidward Tentacles from SpongeBob SquarePants gave funny horoscopes, linking the Zodiac signs to characters from the show.

The Crimson Chin & Cleft, the Boy Chin Wonder

These shorts, made in 2001, featured characters from The Fairly OddParents. They looked like a moving comic book. The shorts followed the Crimson Chin and Cleft, the Boy Chin Wonder as they fought crime in the Chin's comic book.

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius

Nickelodeon made a series of shorts in 2001 to promote the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius movie. Some of these shorts included Hyper Corn, Sea Minus, and Ultralord vs. the Squirrels. Many of them were also made into games on Nick.com.

Mr. Meaty

These were the original shorts that later became the show Mr. Meaty.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

These shorts featured the characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender drawn in a cute, exaggerated style. There were three of them.
