About Lone Mountain
Lone Mountain is a significant peak in the Catskill Mountains. It is known for its natural beauty and the wilderness around it. The mountain is ranked as the 17th highest peak among the Catskill High Peaks.
Where is it located?
Lone Mountain is located in Ulster County, New York. It is surrounded by other interesting mountains. To its southwest, you'll find Table Mountain. To the east, there is Rocky Mountain.
Water Flow Around the Mountain
The water from Lone Mountain flows in different directions.
- The southeast side of the mountain drains into Rondout Creek. This creek then flows into the Hudson River. Finally, the water reaches New York Bay.
- The west side of Lone Mountain sends its water into Donovan Brook. This brook joins the East Branch of the Neversink River. The Neversink River then flows into the Delaware River, which empties into Delaware Bay.
- The north side of the mountain also drains into the East Branch of the Neversink River.
Part of a Wilderness Area
Lone Mountain is located inside the Slide Mountain Wilderness. This wilderness area is part of New York's large Catskill State Park. Being in a wilderness area means the land is protected. It helps keep the natural environment safe for plants and animals.
