Water Flowing from Rocky Mountain
Water from the south and east sides of Rocky Mountain flows into the very beginning of Rondout Creek. This creek then joins the Hudson River, which eventually reaches New York Bay.
On the northeast and northwest sides, water flows into the East Branch of the Neversink River. This river then joins the Delaware River, which empties into Delaware Bay.
Rocky Mountain and the Catskill 3500 Club
Rocky Mountain is one of the 35 tallest peaks in the Catskills. These peaks are all higher than 3,500 feet (about 1,067 meters).
To become a member of the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club, you must climb all 35 of these peaks. Climbing Rocky Mountain is part of this challenge.
There isn't a clear path or trail to the top of Rocky Mountain. This means climbers have to make their own way through the woods. This is often called "bushwhacking."
Rocky Mountain is located within the Slide Mountain Wilderness. This is a special protected area inside New York's Catskill State Park.
