Lumaco is a small town and a commune in Malleco Province, which is part of the Araucanía Region in Chile. The name Lumaco comes from the Mapudungun language. It means "water of luma", referring to a type of plant.

Lumaco is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of Temuco. It is also 52 kilometers (32 miles) from Angol. The area around Lumaco and Purén is very important for history. Many old sites from the Mapuche people and early Spanish settlers have been found here.
